FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  • Where are the dresses manufactured and where does the textile come from?
Our wedding gowns are made with love and care in our atelier in the Netherlands. Our fabrics and raw materials originate mainly from Europe. We really try to leave a low carbon footprint, employing local women and artisans, therefore our lace is designed and sketched by our designer by hand and developed and constructed at the Museum in Tilburg on embroidery machines using sustainable yarns. Our aim is to be a circular company that is kind to the planet, animals, and humans.
  • Who should I bring with me to my appointment?
Bring the two or three people whose opinions you value most. When it comes to choosing a dress, you’ll want to bring guests who understand your true style, give supportive feedback, and will help you look your best. Hearing too many opinions can be overwhelming and it should be your time to shine and to stand in the spotlight.
  • What will my appointments be like?
This unique process consists of approximately 4 to 5 fittings. Typically we start with a consultation discussing how you envision your dream dress to be, and afterward our designer Maaike Elise Stofferis will create drawings of your potential wedding gown and give price options for the different styles we offer. After that, there will be three fittings at different stages of the process. The first fitting is with a cotton sample piece of the garment (a toile) to make sure the pattern fits correctly and necessary adjustments are made. The second fitting entails you trying on your gown in the chosen fabrics and again adjustments for fit being made. Finally, two weeks before the wedding it’s time for your final fitting and adjustments. This is also the moment when you will bring your beautiful custom gown home! It is really a pleasure to guide you all along the way leading up to your big day.
  • Will you have my size available, in what measurements do the dresses at Maison M'Elise run?
At our atelier where your wedding gown will come to life, we make to measure. That means that the gown is specially designed for you to your exact measurements. If you are looking for an evening gown or wedding dress, you have come to the right place! We can execute a truly unique design and tailor it completely to your needs. We also make dresses for bridesmaids, the mother-of-the-bride, and for other festive occasions.
  • When should I start shopping for my wedding dress?
We recommend having your wedding date and venue booked before you begin your search for a dress. It is important to have the date and location established so you can envision the wedding’s overall look, and know when your dress needs to be ready. Our wedding gowns typically take six to nine months to create: the dress goes from sketch to moulage to your dream dress. This all happens in our own atelier in Rotterdam! Book an initial consultation about eight to ten months in advance to ensure your Maison M’Elise dress design is perfect for you.
  • How much money should I expect to spend on a wedding dress at Maison M'Elise?
Maison M’Elise is the Cultural Bride House in Rotterdam where we create bespoke wedding dresses under our wedding label Maison M'Elise. The starting price for our wedding dresses and evening gowns is €5,000.
  • What undergarment should I bring?
